Top Trends – Fall/Winter 2011
Lots of Fur
I plan to take out my fur scarf/collar and find a jacket or sweater to pair it with. You can easily find fur vests, fur trimmed coats and jackets (faux or real) to jazz up your cooler weather clothes.
Red
is a big color for Fall! Available in many shades, spice up your wardrobe with a pretty red sweater, top or dress. Also consider a red or somewhat red lipstick that complements your skin tone.
Western Inspiration
Western Inspiration – lots of prints are available, from Native American to the Wild West, in suede or with fringe detailing. These patterns are great, but do keep the rest of your look simple. Pendleton has some great choices.
Leather
Leather pants, jackets, and even dresses (yes, the 80’s are back) are in and are softer and better than before. I’m loving soft suede jackets and sweaters that mix supple leather with wool. If you wear leather, make it the focal point of your outfit and pair it with a minimal, basic piece such as a black turtleneck.
Color Blocking
Color blocking is a trend where clothes have 2+ colors in blocks on the garment. If you are not into brights, check out a color blocked cardigan sweater with neutrals such as ivory, black and grey. You can also combine three different color separates in balanced proportions.
Animal Prints
Animal Printsare still going strong – particularly snake or python. The most workable items come in neutral tones of ivory and beige with hints of black. Why not try a new handbag in python to jazz up existing fall pieces?
Tweeds and checks
Stores are showing great menswear looking pieces, but in feminine shapes. Think dresses, skirts, or pretty pant suits in glen plaid, herringbone and houndstooth. Always keep in mind what part of your physique you want to flatter and pair with pretty accessories and shoes.
Boots and booties
Boots and booties continue to be so big. Trends this season are leopard print booties, equestrian buckles, wedges and Oxford style flats and heels. I love the look of black skinny pant tucked into a British tan or Caramel leather boot topped off with a swing sweater coat in the same color family.
Polka Dots
Polka dots are everywhere right now, from blouses to tights. My favorites are very small pin dots. I tend to avoid the bigger ones; they can get a little overpowering.
