Top Trends Spring/Summer 2013
Black & White Graphics – graphic patterns are very up-to-the-minute and easy to love. This look is modern but also can be done in a vintage way, as you’ll see in the upcoming “Great Gatsby” movie. For maximum impact, keep your palate strictly black and white. Feel free to use your existing pieces to put the outfit together, or to add to something you buy.
Stripe City – Nautical, Preppy or Parisian, stripes are everywhere and in every color. Narrow stripes are my favorite, particularly in sharp color contrast such as black or navy, with white. Thinner stripes are easier to wear on most body types.
Colorful Tropical Prints – punchy florals and paradise prints are not just for the beach anymore! Remember to put these prints in a place you want to be the focal point of your outfit. If you’re not as comfortable with something too bright, ethnic/tribal prints can be a little more neutral.
Major Metallics on clothes, accessories and shoes – work hard day and night. This year’s versions are space-aged and ultra shiny. I love the way they take a simple outfit up a notch.
Lace – Feminine lace is still going strong! I particularly love lace dresses. Available this season in a rainbow of colors, you’ll still want to watch out for cheap-looking lace. Nice quality makes all the difference!
Spring Brights and Pastels – If you love amped up color, this season offers lots of choices. You can just spruce up your wardrobe with a hot pink handbag or new summer T’s. Stronger pastel picks are abundant for those who want a softer accent choice, and I love all these colors teamed up with white.
Shoe Trends – Pointy-toed shoes are definitely on trend. For the most enduring and classic version, however, stick with a rounded point or almond shaped toe.
There are lots of other great trends available for warm weather. Block heeled sandals look chic and are very stable for walking. Other fun looks include clear lucite accents, black/white combos and metallics.
Jewelry trends – range from colorful, playful colors in beads, stones and fringe to minimalistic pieces in polished gold and silver. Both of these looks work well with warm weather gear.
Makeup – Pretty bright lips in pink and coral really usher in summer for me. I find a little lipstick goes a long way to brighten my pale complexion and finish my look. My personal pink faves are Estee Lauder’s “Candy” and Revlon’s Golden-Oldie “Soft Silver Rose”.
A client recently shared a fun lip gloss love with me. It’s call “O Gloss” from Smashbox and changes from clear to a personalized pinkish color on your lips. It builds up over the course of a day and leaves a subtle stain on your lip. Very nice!
It’s a personal preference whether you like lipstick or the lighter look of gloss, but both add polish to your appearance. Don’t leave the house without it!
