Top Trends Spring/Summer 2015

70s flashback

Subtle 70s flashback. Similar to NYC, we’re seeing a lot of Bohemian print and wrap dresses, head-to-toe prints, fringe accents, soft suede and tassel/pendant necklaces. These are really some of the Spring’s biggest influences, but note this is a softer boho chic than a full-fledged “costumey” 70’s style. Remember there is no need to do this look head to toe…just a touch will update your look.

ColorsBlue and Yellow Abound. There’s blue in all shades, and plenty of denim (the little denim dress (LDD) is back and easy to wear). Navy is very “in” and although it doesn’t replace black, it’s a great option for those who like to wear darker colors. Yellow is also very popular, and goes nicely with blue. This sunny shade can be difficult to pull off so look for a hue that complements your complexion or use it as an accent color in a scarf or print.

Gingham

Grown-up Gingham. Opt for a clean lines without frill or girly details. I love oversized men’s check shirts (available in lots of colors) and black-and-white grid prints that are crisp and geometric. Tailor them to your personal style. For me, that means prints that work with my existing black pieces in my closet. Optic checks bring a jolt of energy to dark clothes while giving them a mod spin.

Culottes… Yikes! They’re back, and just as tricky to pull off! The ones that make the fashion cut are made of weighty, luxe fabrics and look great with a shorter top and a higher heel. I like culotte or wide leg crops that hit just above the ankle bone and tend to wear them with higher espadrilles or wedges.

Spring coats

Spring coats. I am loving the new relaxed trench styles that are out because they are comfy and easy to wear. They should have the the same polished details as a regular trench but with a softer silhouette, and are available in lots of bright or neutral colors.

Shoes  – get comfy!  This year’s footwear trends come in all heel heights and shapes, from platforms to flatforms to block chunky heels and even my favorite…pretty statement flats! This is a great shoe to wear for dressy when you’re not up for high heels.

Influenced slides (including original and designer versions of Birkenstocks and Dr. Scholl’s) and gladiator sandals are still going strong and will make this summer walking much easier. Dressy and statement flats are getting more varied and stylish with t-straps, ankle straps and lots of interesting details. Wedges, espadrilles and chunky heels fill the stores for spring.

Handbags… Brownbagging it. Suddenly bright colors look less fresh and investment tans, camels and darker nudes look new and chic! Leather and suede in these tones are both great choices.
