bold, oversized coat

Coats!  Bold oversized coats “that fit like a bathrobe and canmake you look like a princess” (WSJ) are big this season. Some are a little boxy and masculine, but find one that’s colorful and swingy too for the best look. You don’t want to look like you’re wearing a hand-me-down. I would want this somewhat voluminous coat to be soft and light as well.

I’ve also seen a lot of pea coats and military looking jackets.  These were prominent last Fall too, so maybe check your closet and pull those out!

moto

Moto” is also a  new classic topper.  Motorcycle-inspired jackets are everywhere, are at every price and are versatile for both indoor and outdoor use.  If you get one that’s not too cropped and has minimal hardware, you’ll have a long-wearing and useful investment.

Looser fits: Size up when it comes to fitting yourself in coats and shirts, as clothes are trending a little looser this season.  I would advise to wear something more fitted paired with a looser shirt for the best look, and make sure the shoulders always fit nicely!

Pullovers: think sweatshirt shape, but more upscale and with a classier flair. In materials such as cashmere, cotton or blends, these are great with a banded bottom and worn over shirts and pants that look dressier than you would normally pair with that shape.

Chunky knits, especially pullovers (above) are big this Fall.  This look can be tough to pull off if you are busty, and my preference is to keep it fitted, with no cables.  Don’t forget to push the sleeves up.

grey
leather multi

In addition to jewel tones, grey is a big staple color.  From charcoal to slate to dove, grey is considered the new neutral.  Grey does well by itself or color blocked with other fall tones or even against other grey fabrics and leathers.
Leather Weather: So much leather is around this season – shirts, skirts, pants, and obviously jackets.  Feax leather (or “Pleather”) can also work well, but make sure it’s very soft and drapey.

There are also multi-fabric/leather items that look great! Youcan find fabric variations including wool jackets with leather sleeves, black leather tops with lace inlays, and even dresses with leather accents.  What a hot look!

houndstooth coat

Menswear fabrics:houndstooth, check, herringbone, tweed, plaidsare all available on jackets, coats, pants and more. They are always best in feminine shapes!

Fuller skirts and dresses are much more widely available. It seems like curve-hugging sheaths and pencil skirts have been dominating the field but this Fall softly feminine, fuller silhouettes are very in style.

purse

Purses: Ladylike clutches and satchels are hot this season. I love a long strap to make it practical too.

leopard belt

Animal prints are still a staple, and still available in stores.  Leopard is my personal favorite, but feel free to find your own “wild side!”

d'orsay flats

Shoes:  The trend is pointier – but not too pointy – for both casual and dress shoes.
Flats, including  d’orsay, loafers, menswear oxfords and casual flat ankle boots are all the rage this year. Try one to update a last-season staple. I’ve seen the biggest variety of flats in a long time, so you’ll have lots to choose from.

Ankle strap shoes can look cute with a straight leg ankle pant where you can see the strap peeking out.

Wider, lower, chunkier heels and also the classic pointy-toe pump without a platform round out the trend in shoes.

I’m going to have a lot of fun shoe-shopping this year!
